Start here

One page covers the nine accessories that matter most, what each one fixes, and the order to buy them in. Seven categories then have a full guide of their own, each with six picks and a comparison table.
The nine essentials: cards, batteries, microphones, filters, tripods, bags, cleaning, cases and power.
SD, microSD and CFexpress, with the speed classes that actually keep a recording running.
Spares, chargers and power banks, plus the airline rules for flying with lithium cells.
Backpacks, slings, travel packs and hard cases compared on published capacity and weight.
Travel, video, studio and tabletop, on published height, weight and load capacity.
Polarisers, neutral density, magnetic systems and drone sets.
What a gimbal still does better than in-body stabilisation, and six worth buying.
A safe cleaning order, what never to use, and six products that cover it.
Cards, spare batteries, filters and landing pads, covered inside the drone buying guide.

Every category

What counts as an accessory

Seventeen categories, each of which becomes its own guide as the section grows. Eight are published. The other nine are planned rather than written, and we would rather say so than send you to an empty page.

Memory cards

The one accessory nobody can skip. Sustained write speed decides whether a card can record 4K at all.

Batteries and chargers

Spares and a multi-bay hub. The difference between a demonstration and a day of shooting.

Camera bags

Backpacks, slings and shoulder bags. The bag decides how much kit you actually carry.

Tripods and supports

Travel tripods, video heads and tabletop supports, from carbon fibre down to a clamp.

Filters

Neutral density and polarisers. The cheapest way to make video look deliberate rather than accidental.

Camera protection

Screen protectors, lens caps, rain covers and body armour. Cheap insurance on expensive glass.

Lighting

LED panels, pocket lights and RGB. What fixes a dark room faster than any sensor upgrade.

Microphones

Wireless systems, shotguns and lavaliers. The single biggest quality jump available to a creator.

Mounts

Helmet, chest, bike, car and magnetic. An action camera is only as good as where you can put it.

Gimbals

Handheld stabilisers for cameras and phones. Smooth movement that no software can fake.

Power

Power banks, GaN chargers and travel adapters. Keeping everything alive away from a socket.

Cleaning

Blowers, lens pens and microfibre. A scratched lens ruins every frame afterwards.

Storage

External SSDs, card wallets and backup. Where the footage lives once the card is full.

Cases

Hard cases and waterproof boxes for transport, travel and the boot of a car.

Travel

Packing cubes, cable organisers and adapters. Getting a kit through an airport intact.

Creator desk setup

Monitors, card readers, docks and desk lighting. Where the edit actually happens.

Smartphone accessories

Clamps, gimbals, lenses and lights for the camera you always have with you.

What you can expect from this section

We do not test accessories
Every detail here is the manufacturer’s own published information, labelled as such and dated. We do not present anyone else’s measurements as our own.
No paid placements
Nothing appears on a list because someone paid for it. Some links are commercial and that never affects what we recommend or in what order.
No exact prices
Accessory pricing moves constantly, so we publish dated bands and send you to the retailer for the current figure.
We say when we cannot verify something
If we cannot open a manufacturer’s own product page ourselves, we say so and leave the button off rather than sending you somewhere we have not checked.

Coming next in this section

Dedicated guides are planned for: Best Camera Cases, Best Power Banks, Best Camera Lighting, Best Action Camera Mounts, Best Portable SSDs, Best Smartphone Accessories. Each will link back to the essentials page, and that page will link out to each of them.

Not sure what you are missing?

The essentials page is organised by what goes wrong without each item, and ends with a buying order rather than a shopping list.
Creator Gear is reader-funded and independent.
